The Empirical Reasoning Center (erc.barnard.edu) at Barnard seeks a new cohort of Empirical Reasoning Fellows for the 2019-2020 academic year.  During the academic year Empirical Reasoning Fellows will help students during walk-in lab hours, assist in the development of the lab's resources, and potentially be assigned to specific courses for class support. Duties include support for the design of empirical projects and surveys, for statistics and analysis techniques, mapping and GIS methods, and for software including, but not limited to Excel, STATA, SPSS, R, QGIS, and/or ArcGIS. Other duties include maintaining assessment records, developing and maintaining online resources, and other aspects of programmatic support as assigned. Some proficiency with Excel and either R, Stata, Python, ArcGIS, or QGIS is required, although additional training will be provided. Advanced proficiency in one or more data analysis or statistical softwares preferred. Currently enrolled student in good standing.

The ideal candidate should have strong quantitative and communication skills and ease in thinking critically about data and data analysis as well as an attention to detail and willingness to work hard and collaboratively. Passion for data analysis is required!  We ask for a 1-year minimum commitment. Rising juniors are encouraged to apply. Participation in summer training sessions (or evidence of mastery of this material) is required for employment during the academic year. We welcome applications from undergraduates enrolled in any Columbia undergraduate program (i.e. Barnard, CC, GS, etc.).

Please apply through Barnard Works. Cover letter, resume, unofficial transcript, and the name of one faculty reference who can attest to analytical-empirical skills required. Contact Fatima Koli, Lab Coordinator of the Empirical Reasoning Center, at fkoli@barnard.edu with any questions regarding this position.
