Data for Justice
Led by Fatima Koli and Denise Mantey -- We will introduce students to the controversial role of data in community organizing and social justice: data can help reveal and bring light to inequality, but it can also reinforce systems of power and embed bias. We will explore various data sets, methods, and visualizations to discuss how and where they embed bias. Given that context, we will also consider if and how we can reconcile that and use data for uncovering inequality and the ethical data practices we will need to keep in mind when doing so.
Summer Camp @barnlib workshops are designed for incoming and current Barnard students, but open to everyone. Sign up so we can send you the Zoom links!
